Coleman has hung in there throughout training camp and preseason. The former first-round draft pick has just one reception on 35 offensive snaps this preseason, but he has flashed occasionally during camp, making some impressive catches and showing off his 4.3 40-yard dash speed.
If an injury were to occur to a speedy receiver such as Mecole Harman or Skyy Moore, Coleman is the only one who could match their quickness. Coleman’s real ticket to the 53-man roster will be special teams. He leads the Chiefs in kickoff and punt returns in the preseason with a total of five.
It’s possible that the coaching staff isn’t comfortable with other options, especially at punt returner. A solid performance, either offensively or on special teams, could sneak Coleman onto the roster.
