I get the thinking behind sending a Bell to Kansas City. Yes, the Chiefs have an all-world player in Travis Kelce. They also have two very good players behind Kelce in Noah Gray and Jody Fortson. They even have Matt Bushman on injured reserve, who could be a nice developmental piece.
This Bell could go a long way toward replacing another Blake Bell, who suffered a hip injury during the preseason. The 6-3 and 230-pound South Carolina Gamecock has a skillset more like an H-Back. He recorded 30 receptions for 497 yards and five touchdowns last season, with a lot of it coming in the season finale against North Carolina. He’s also a heck of an in-line blocker and special teamer as well.
Unless Bell has a breakout year on offense this season I have trouble believing that he will get picked at 61 overall, especially as an early declare. He’s a borderline top 100 pick for me right now. I also am not sure the Chiefs would invest such a high pick at tight end with other clear needs.
