The Arizona Cardinals continue to work on building a new coaching staff for head coach Jonathan Gannon. They are in the process of hiring a new defensive coordinator after Vance Joseph was released from his contract to find employment elsewhere.
In addition to interviewing Chicago Bears linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi Saturday to be defensive coordinator, the Cardinals have requested an interview with New England Patriots defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Covington has been coaching since 2012 and has coached in the NFL since 2017 with the Patriots. He was a coaching assistant in 2017-2018, the final two years new Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort was with the Patriots in the scouting department. Covington was outside linebackers coach in 2019 and has been the defensive line coach since then.
