Arizona Cardinals to have ‘two significant offenses’ for Kyler Murray

Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury believed in keeping his quarterback in shotgun. He said there is very little you can’t do from there.

New Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon does not think the same way about the offense.

The offense with quarterback Kyler Murray, once he returns from recovering from his ALC surgery, will look different under Gannon and new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.

“We’re not gonna put him in gun all the time, I’ll tell you that,” Gannon told NBC Sports’ Peter King. “We’ll have two significant offenses with his skill set: one being under center and one being in the gun. Then obviously we’re gonna do what’s comfortable with him.”

Gannon believes being under center takes pressure off the quarterback and the offensive line.

“That’s the missing piece I thought they had with Kyler,” he added. “They were in gun all the time. When you’re in gun all the time, you don’t make the defense defend certain play types. Now, when you get him under center, the defense has to defend a lot more type of play types. So there’s really two offenses I see us using.”

It will be a while before we see Murray taking snaps under center because he is recovering from ACL surgery, but it sounds like the offense with Gannon and Petzing will be a bit more versatile than what it was under Kingsbury.
