The offseason activities are in full swing as front-office personnel scrambles to make decisions to improve rosters. Free agency and the NFL draft dominate the headlines, while some players question their future and others enjoy the time off the field.

The Kansas City Chiefs players are enjoying their post-Super Bowl LVII life with various appearances and events. Travis Kelce enjoyed his at one of the most iconic television programs in history last week. The All-Pro tight end joined his brother Jason Kelce for another taping of their “New Heights” podcast to recap his time hosting “Saturday Night Live.”

“So Monday, you have the interaction meeting, then you meet with the writers about your monologue,” said Travis. “It was probably the biggest part — was making sure the monologue was true to you, but still, at the same time, entertaining. Oh my gosh, they made that monologue so, me. I could just run with it, and I could have fun with it. I was comfortable with everything; it didn’t make me nervous about anything I was saying. I could just sit up there and make fun of myself in front of anyone; it was the best.”

The iconic sketch comedy show is known for its busy week of preparation for the big night, setting it apart from other programs. Kelce continued to detail his week and mentioned a Pro Football Hall of Famer who offered him advice.

“Tuesday comes around, and you start to meet with every writer there, you just go office to office … and you just hear pitches, and you hear what sticks, what’s fun,” said Travis.” Peyton Manning gave me one word of advice going into it, which was the best advice I could get; he was like, ‘Dude, just go all in. Just be open-minded… be on time…’”

Kelce had sketches that included his brother Jason and a special unaired one with teammate Creed Humphrey. The scene was cut for time but has since gone viral online; he detailed how he got the Chiefs center to participate.

“We needed a third NFL offensive lineman or third NFL player,” said Jason. “Yeah. And we reached out to Creed. And he was like, ‘Yeah, I’m in, man.’ He literally had to jump on a flight in like four hours. He jumped on a flight that morning, comes all the way out to New York City from Oklahoma City. Does the bit, and he’s gone.

“Immediately back (to Oklahoma City) because he had a parade,” said Travis. “It was Creed Humphrey parade in Oklahoma City. Yeah, so he had to get back and couldn’t miss that. Creed, I love you for this man, and he absolutely killed it.”

The show was praised by many of Kelce’s teammates and players around the league. He continues to show he’s more than a football player and has a bright future when his playing days are over.
