AZ Cardinals OL Josh Jones gets nearly $1.5M raise from salary escalator

Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Josh Jones gets a raise of nearly $1.5 million in 2023.

Why?

He qualified for the league’s proven performance escalator, according to Over the Cap.

He was scheduled to make $1.27 million per his rookie contract. He will now make more than $2.73 million, which equals the amount of the low tender for restricted free agents.

There are three tiers players can hit based on playing time and performance.

Jones hit Level 1. To reach Level 1, a second-round pick must play in at least 60% of his team’s offensive or defensive snaps through his first three seasons.

For players drafted in Round 3-7, they must hit 35% of their teams snaps.

Jones played in 10.5% of the Cardinals’ offensive snaps in 2020, 72.7% in 2021 and 57.0% in 2022 for a total of 46.7%.

Jones’ cap hit in 2023 with his new salary will now be $3.01 million.

He will be in a battle for a spot on the roster in training camp this year, which might make him a trade candidate with the re-signing of Kelvin Beachum, the drafting of Paris Johnson and offseason additions of Dannis Daley and Elijah Wilkinson.
