The Kansas City Chiefs saw victory slip out of their hands in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football when wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling dropped a perfectly thrown pass from Patrick Mahomes late in the fourth quarter.
While one play rarely defines an entire game, Valdes-Scantling’s butterfingers absolutely cost Kansas City a chance at victory late in the Super Bowl LVII rematch, and typified the Chiefs’ offensive struggles both in Monday night’s game specifically, and during the team’s entire 2023 season.
Even with a resurgent defense leading the way and the NFL’s reigning MVP under center, it seems that Kansas City just can’t catch a break when its offense has the ball in pivotal moments of crucial games. While Valdes-Scantling is just the latest culprit in this regard, the frustration festering among Chiefs fans on social media was evident in the deluge of posts about his miscue after the game.
Check out some of Twitter’s top reactions to the brutal play:
MVS is making 11 million dollars to play football this year. He has 14 catches in 10 games this season

There is absolutely no reason MVS should be getting the snaps he gets. Absolutely worthless

MVS saw Quentin Johnston play yesterday and said “Imma do it better don’t you worry”

Right now Mahomes has to be wondering why Justin Watson and MVS are on this roster. He literally can’t throw it and catch it.

MVS slams his helmet against the wall walking down the tunnel.
He didn’t drop it so there’s some positive signs moving forward.

Sorry about that dropped pass there guys. The ball hit me in the wrong place…. the hands.

Cut MVS. There’s no excuse. 6 drops on targets 30+ yards down the field
— Rob (@FreshBrewdBeats) November 21, 2023
Chiefs can save 12M cutting MVS next year with a 2M dead cap. Seems like a done deal at this point of the season.
Just need more to rationalize that pay.

That MVS drop should be his last target in a Chiefs uniform. The definition of “you had one job”. This loss stings. 2 games up on the Broncos lol
